Why choose Adventures Day Nursery?

We believe that the most important aspect of our nursery is ensuring we have the right staff to care for your child.  Our managers are experienced and well qualified early years professionals. When we recruit staff, we ensure that they are dedicated to providing high quality childcare with nurturing personalities and a high level of professionalism as well as the appropriate qualifications and experience for their role.
Your child’s happiness and safety is always our first priority and we place an emphasis on emotional care and development. All children need to feel safe, loved and well cared for and, as well as ensuring these basic needs are met, we understand that all children are unique with their own needs and personal requirements and we care for every child as an individual.  In addition to providing excellent care, we believe in providing outstanding learning experiences through enjoyable play. We will provide a stimulating environment to foster a love of learning that can provide children with the best possible start in life.   We truly value a well trained workforce.

We are looking forward to welcoming you!

What happens next?

We will provide you with a more in depth welcome pack, however, here is some of the basic information that you will need to know before your little one begins their Adventure.

Settling periods

We know the difficulties in returning to work and leaving your baby, whether they are three months old or five years old, and the feelings of guilt and anxiety that almost all parents experience.  We will support your family as well as we can, so that returning to work or beginning your daily childcare will be as free from anxiety as possible.

To make this transition as smooth as possible it is very important for children to go through a settling in process before their official start date, especially if they have never been separated from their primary carer for any length of time.
Shortly before your child’s start date, we will contact you to arrange settling visits for you and your child. Generally, your child will attend on 2-4 occasions at different times of day with each session a little longer than the last.  Typically the first session would be 2 hours and you would remain with your child for all or part of that and the final settling session would be around 6 hours with as much of that as possible spent solely with the nursery staff.  You are very welcome to stay for as many of these settling sessions you wish to for as long as you like, but the most important thing is that by the end of the settling period you and your child are both ready for them to be left in our care for the full day.

Special requirements for babies

During your baby’s settling in sessions, your baby’s key worker will discuss with you their current routine, how they like to settle for their sleep and any other individual requirements you have for your baby’s care.  We will do our best to carry on the routine you have established at home although in our experience most babies very quickly adapt to the nursery routine.  We ask you to provide nappies, cream, wipes and formula, if appropriate, as we know that babies can be very sensitive to small changes to their hygiene routine.  Babies, unless otherwise requested, are given nursery meals, blended as necessary with current dietary guidelines for the appropriate age taken into account.

What your child will need to wear to nursery

All parents are asked to provide at least one full change of clothes for their child, clearly marked with the child’s name.
  • Please can you dress your child in clothes which are simple and easy to get on and off, jeans and dungarees can be uncomfortable and buttons, zips and laces can be very frustrating to a young child who is learning independence.
  • Please dress your child in comfortable clothes, that are easy for your child’s carer to manage, along with shoes, which have Velcro or buckle fasteners instead of laces.
  • Please remember your child will take part in messy play activities every day - whilst we do provide aprons and appropriate over clothing, children can still get paint, glue, mud, sand or water on their clothes when taking part in messy play fun.  It is hard for the staff if your child is in expensive or new clothes as we would not ever want to stop a child getting dirty at the expense of their enjoyment or learning.
  • Please always dress your children appropriately for the weather and in the summer months please apply sun cream to them in the morning before they leave home. The nursery staff will ensure sun cream is topped up throughout the day.
  • During Winter months please provide wellington boots and warm outdoor clothing as well a waterproof splash suit, all clearly marked with your child’s name.
  • We prefer children not to wear jewellery as it can be dangerous and we cannot guarantee that when the children are playing it will not get broken or lost.

What to do if your child is poorly

We always meet the needs of our children in every circumstance and this is especially true if they are unwell.  We have a medication and sickness policy that sets out the procedures that we follow in more detail but it is important that you understand how we manage illness.

The first and most important thing is, that we will always ensure a child’s safety and we will not accept any child into our care without signed authorisation to seek emergency medical attention if required.  This is an extremely rare occurrence and normally if your child is unwell, we liaise closely with parents to ensure that your wishes are followed.  With your permission, we will give them Calpol or Piriton if appropriate as well as any prescribed medication.  Following the advice of the Health Standards Agency, the nursery will administer prescribed medicines however the first 24 hours of medication must be given at home, under close supervision, in case an adverse reaction occurs.

If you are bringing in prescribed medication for your child, please ensure that it has the original labelling, is in the original container and discuss administering with your child’s room leader or a senior member of the nursery staff.

Children may be excluded from nursery if they have a contagious illness, sickness or diarrhoea in line with our sickness policy and Health Protection Agency Guidelines.   If your child does become ill whilst at nursery, we will contact you and, if necessary, we will ask you to collect your child.

Partnership with parents

We recognise that, as parents, you are the most important person in your children’s lives and we know that we can do a much better job of caring for your child by working in partnership with you.  When your child first starts and throughout their time at nursery we welcome as much input and information as possible and we will constantly seek your input into their learning plan.
